Born in Mid-Air is my debut novel. It's a dark love story amid a maelstrom of loss, grief and confusion.

I started writing it in 1997 to get a lot of sadness and grief off my chest. It took years of ill-disciplined, 'on-off' writing to complete and - once done - sat idly on my hard drive. I stumbled upon it in late 2011, re-read it and was pleasantly surprised how well it fitted together, especially as back then I'd never studied story structure.

Just before rediscovering Born in Mid-Air I'd been reading a lot about the world of self-publishing. It struck me that I could release the story I'd started thirteen years prior, and offer it to the big wide world. I self-published it in October 2011 through print-on-demand website Lulu.com.

I've been absolutely overwhelmed by the response to Born in Mid-Air. Set in 1997 Nottingham, the setting really seems to have struck a chord with readers who enjoyed drinking, clubbing and fornicating in that era.
